Rubio de Pruna
Performances at La Cantaora
ANTONIO FLORES CORTES, a Gypsy flamenco singer better known in the world of flamenco singing by the artistic name RUBITO DE PRUNA, was born in 1983 in the neighborhood “Los Vikingos” in Córdoba. Coming from a Gypsy family, he began singing at a very young age, starting his career in singing accompaniment. He always stood out for his art at Gypsy gatherings in his hometown, gaining recognition in flamenco gatherings and private parties.
In 2006, he moved to Seville where he began to stand out in the Casa Badia flamenco gathering. From there, he started performing extensively, making a name for himself in the Sevillian flamenco scene, including participating with the Federation of Flamenco Peñas of Seville in the Peñas Circuit of Guardias and other recitals.
Afterwards, he began singing for prominent artists such as Manuela Carrasco, Juan de Juan, or the Farruco family, touring the world with them. In 2008, he won the first prize at the II International Flamenco Singing Contest “Puerta de Alcudia” in Puertollano. In 2011, he obtained the first prize at the Las Minas “Por Bulería” Contest.
He has worked for extended periods in the best tablaos in Spain, such as Casa Pata in Madrid, El Cordobés in Barcelona, and all the tablaos in Seville. In 2012, the great Paco de Lucía included him in his group; he was the last singer he worked with until his death in 2014 and participated in Farruquito’s production “Puro.”
In 2014, he won the prize at the LIII Antonio Mairena Deep Singing Contest. Currently, he is preparing his first solo album and is part of the Sara Baras Flamenco Company. Additionally, he regularly performs at the Los Gallos Tablao in Seville.
Antonio Flores Cortés was not born in Pruna but in Córdoba in 1983, the same year Antonio Mairena passed away. Since he was a child, he developed as a singer in the best dance companies, from Manuela Carrasco to the Farruco family. Paco de Lucía must have seen something in him to choose him in 2012 as his singer, accompanying him until his passing in 2014.
