JUAN JOSÉ VILLAR GÓMEZ, a flamenco dancer, was born in Cádiz, the latest link in the saga of the Villar and Jinetos families, a lineage of artists from Cádiz that began with his grandfather, the singer Juanito Villar, and continued with his father, also a singer, Juan Villar Junior. His mother, Susana Gómez, is also an artist, specifically a dancer. He felt the call of flamenco from a very young age, and at just 8 years old, he was already tapping on the stage of the Peña Flamenca La Perla in Cádiz.
He received classical dance training, graduating from the Antonio Ruiz Soler Professional Dance Conservatory in Seville. He has also taken courses with renowned artists such as Concha Jareño, Juan Ogalla, Mercedes de Córdoba, Pepe Torres, La Lupi, Farruquito, Ángel Muñoz, David Paniagua, El Güito, and Olga Pericet. In 2006, he embarked on a tour of Japan accompanied by his parents for 45 days. A year later, he entered the Luis del Río Professional Dance Conservatory in Córdoba, and in 2009, he participated in the well-known Canal Sur program called “Mi primer olé”. For five summers, from 2010 to 2015, he returned to Japan to perform in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagano, and Okinawa.
In 2011, he was part of the dance ensemble of Yolanda Osuna’s company presenting “Vivencias flamencas” at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba. A year later, he won first prize in the Flamenco Dance Contest of Villa de Guillena (Seville). In 2014, he worked on “Fitur por Córdoba Flamenca” (Madrid), and in 2015, he received the Third Prize for dance by alegrías at the National Contest of La Perla De Cádiz and presented his first show, “Es el momento,” at the Central Lechera Theater (Cádiz) to great public and critical acclaim.
In 2016, he won first prize in the flamenco dance competition at Tablao Las Carboneras (Madrid). That same year, he was chosen among many artists from Andalusia to perform as a guest artist in Farruquito’s show “Improvisao” at the Teatro Quintero (Seville), as well as in “Bailaores” alongside Joni el Remache and El Carpeta.
He has undertaken various tours, including one in Azerbaijan with Sergio Monroy’s show “Chicuco,” and has also participated in the Seville Biennial with the children’s show “La sirenita entre mares andaluces,” produced by Flamencos por el Mundo, where he played the lead character. In 2017, he embarked on a nine-day tour of Japan. He has performed at Tablao Cordobés and Los Tarantos in Barcelona, and El Arenal in Seville.
Throughout his professional career, he has shared the stage with artists such as Carmen Ledesma, Pepe Torres, Almudena Serrano, and Choro Molina, among many others.
