Juan Cantarote
Performances at La Cantaora
Juan Peña Fernández “Cantarote”, bulerías singer and dancer, was born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1969. He comes from a family of great artists, such as the legendary Juan Talega. He is a relative of Juan Peña El Lebrijano and brother of the palm tree owner Luis Cantarote. He grew up in the Santiago de Jerez neighborhood and has known, since he was little, all the styles of flamenco singing. He debuted at the age of 14 in “Los cantes festeros” in Jerez, beginning his professional career at this time. He works in numerous tablaos: in Barcelona at Los Tarantos and Carmen, in Córdoba at Don Manuel, in Jerez at Los Jucales and El Lagar de tio Parrilla.
He offers numerous recitals in Germany, as he is in high demand for being one of the best clappers in Spain. In addition to his quality as a singer and dancer, he considers that “playing the clapping” is a truly rare talent, precisely because you need to know the rhythm, deep dancing and singing.
Since he was little, many great artists have wanted him with them: Juanito Villar, Pansequito, Moraito, Manuela Carpio, etc… This artist impresses the public by dazzling them with a melodious song and a subtle form so typical of his neighborhood. Her natural and spontaneous grace is perfect for presenting a show aimed at the authentic “flamenco sense” and in a world where most artists act in an academic and perfect manner, her smile, her class and her elegance have conquered the hearts of many Spaniards. and foreign spectators.
