Antonio Amaya “El Petete”
Performances at La Cantaora
Antonio Amaya (1993), better known in the flamenco world and among family as “Petete,” is a young bailaor (flamenco dancer) and palmero (rhythm clapper) from Seville, born into a family of artists. Among them is Remedios Amaya, one of the great female voices of recent decades. Growing up, he naturally gravitated towards flamenco, spending his childhood playing to the rhythm, and enjoying singing and dancing in the park with friends.
He first stepped onto a flamenco stage at the age of 7, under the guidance of maestro Torombo at the Tablao Flamenco Los Gallos. Since then, he has performed in Algeria, Russia, Krakow, Paris, Italy, and more, studying with renowned masters such as José Galván, Rafael Campallo, Andrés Peña, Juanito de los Reyes, Torombo, Pepe Torres, and Charo Cala.
He has been part of Charo Cala’s company in the productions *Tirititrán 3* and *Matemáticas de los Jondos Redux*, performing at La Escena Encendida of the Diputación de Sevilla and at the Edinburgh International Festival. He also participated in the Moratana show during the Seville Pre-Biennial with Pastora Galván and Rubén Olmos, and in the Seville Biennial with Cristian Guerrero, Antonio Rey, Manuel Parrilla, and Bernardo Parrilla. Furthermore, he has shared the stage with artists of the caliber of Farruquito, Manuela Carrasco, Juan de Juan, Remedios Amaya, Pepe Torres, La Tremendita, Mari Vizarraga, El Perla, Rubio de Pruna, Juan José Amador, Pedro Sierra, Enrique Extremeño, among others.
At the 20th edition of the Seville Flamenco Biennial (2018), he was sponsored by maestro Farruquito in the “De La Mano de…” program, where he presented his show *CINCO SENTÍO*. At the 22nd edition of the Seville Flamenco Biennial (2022), he performed to a full house as part of the Flamenco Fuera de Serie company, dancing his complete number in Soleá within the show *Tablao*, under the artistic direction of maestro José Suárez “El Torombo.” Later that same year, he performed in Pamplona at the theater of the Museum of the University of Navarra. At the 27th Festival de Jerez, he danced in Esperanza Fernández’s show *40 AÑOS EN LA MÚSICA* at the González-Byass winery in Jerez.
In June 2023, at the Mont de Marsan International Flamenco Art Festival (France), he returned as part of the young Fuera de Serie company to perform his complete numbers, including Soleá and Seguiriyas, in the show *Tablao*, Cantera de las Tres Mil, under the artistic direction of maestro Torombo. Additionally, in the same festival, he performed a solo dance piece as part of the ensemble, with Rosario “La Tremendita” as the guest artist. He returned from Mont de Marsan directly to the Peña Flamenca Torres Macarena, a renowned flamenco venue in Seville, to perform with Enrique “El Extremeño,” Vicente Saavedra “El Pecas,” and El Perla. On International Flamenco Day, he performed in Plaza San Francisco in Seville, in an event organized by the Seville City Council and the Seville Flamenco Biennial.
Currently, and for several years now, he has been actively performing in flamenco tablaos in Seville and throughout Andalusia.
