Abel Harana is a young flamenco dancer born in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz). From an early age, he began his training with masters such as José Antonio Benítez, Ana María López, Joaquín Grilo, Manolo Marín, and El Güito. Later, in Madrid, he continued perfecting his craft with renowned artists such as Domingo Ortega, Antonio Reyes, and La China.
At 18, Abel won first prize in the National Competition “Noches de Bajo de Guía” performing soleá and seguirillas. His career flourished in tablaos in Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville, such as “Corral de la Pacheca,” “Las Tablas,” “Al-Ándalus,” and “El Arenal.” He also toured the world as part of the companies of Rafael de Córdoba, José Porcel, María Pagés, and Pepa Montes. He had the opportunity to premiere his own choreography at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla at the Teatro Lope de Vega.
He has been a guest artist alongside flamenco pianist Pedro Ricardo Miño at international festivals in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Mont de Marsan, and was a member of the “Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía” directed by Cristina Hoyos. In 2010, he premiered the show “Memoria Antigua” at the XIV Festival de Jerez, together with bailaora Patricia Ibáñez.
His international career includes performances in Tokyo, Dubai, Qatar, Malta, Norway, New Zealand, and New Caledonia. He has served as both choreographer and lead artist at the Bienal de Sevilla and has toured the United States with his show “Memoria Antigua.” He has also collaborated with Farruquito in Santiago, Chile, and participated in the Bienal de Holanda with pianist Alfonso Aroca. In addition, he has performed in festivals such as the “Paco de Lucía Guitar Festival.”
In 2024, Harana will return to Tokyo for a season as a solo dancer, along with Fuensanta La Moneta and other top-tier artists.
