Ramón Martínez Rama

Ramón Martínez is a flamenco dancer from Málaga, born into a family deeply connected to flamenco, which became the soundtrack of his childhood. At the age of four, he took his first dance steps and began training under Carmen Fernanda in Málaga, later continuing his studies with renowned masters such as Matilde Coral, Manolo Marín, Manolete, Maestro Granero, and Pedro Azorín.

At 18, he was selected to join the first ensemble of dancers in what is now known as the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, directed by Mario Maya. With this company, he toured extensively throughout Spain and internationally, sharing the stage with acclaimed artists such as Israel Galván, Isabel Bayón, Rafaela Carrasco, and Belén Maya.

His career expanded through collaborations with prestigious dance companies led by María Pagés, Javier Latorre, José Antonio, Javier Barón, Eva Yerbabuena, Cristina Hoyos, and Israel Galván. From 2006 to 2011, he performed as a soloist with Paco Peña’s company, appearing on major stages such as the Sydney Opera House, Petronas Towers (Kuala Lumpur), Town Hall (Broadway), and Sadler’s Wells (London).

Since 2002, he has performed in internationally renowned tablaos such as El Cordobés, Los Gallos, El Arenal, La Casa del Flamenco, and the Museo del Baile Flamenco in Seville. That same year, he created his own company, presenting a show during a successful season at Tokyo’s tablao “El Flamenco.”

His artistry has been recognized with numerous awards:

• First Prize, Torre del Cante (1992)

• First Prize for Alegrías, La Perla de Cádiz (2003)

• Finalist, Concurso Nacional de Córdoba (2004)

• First Prize, Concurso Nacional de Ubrique (2004)

• Dora Mavor Moore Award (Canada, 2007) for Outstanding Performance

As a creator, he premiered “Flamenco… Flamenco” at the I Bienal de Flamenco de Málaga (2005) to great critical and public acclaim. He later presented “Canbagui” (2013) with Juan Requena and José Valencia, and “Los hilos del tiempo” (2013) with Alicia Márquez, both sold-out performances at the Teatro Central in Seville and the Festival de Jerez.

In 2015, he returned to the Bienal de Málaga with “Bailarte” (with Alicia Márquez) and, in 2016, collaborated with José Torres on “La suite del reloj.” Since 2017, he has been a member of Israel Galván’s company, performing in the show “La Fiesta” on stages around the world.

Today, Ramón combines his work as a dancer in international productions and tablaos with teaching flamenco in Seville and abroad, driven by his conviction that flamenco is an art capable of crossing all borders.
