David Pérez

Born in Alcalá de Guadaíra (Seville) in 1982, David Pérez began dancing at the age of thirteen at Manolo Marín’s academy, where he trained with masters such as Javier Cruz, Rafael Campallo and Manuel Betanzos.

He has been awarded major distinctions, including the “El Desplante” Prize at the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas (2004), the “Jóvenes Flamencos de Andalucía” Award from the Federation of Flamenco Associations of Seville (2006), and was nominated for the Lorca Award as Best Flamenco Performer (2018). In 2021, he received the Dancers United Award UK for his outstanding contribution to online dance teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

His professional career began in 1999 with Curro Vélez’s show “Fiesta Gitana”, leading to a long international journey through numerous productions such as “Bipolar” by Belén Maya, “En clave de 6” directed by José Luis Ortiz Nuevo, “Vaivenes” and “Dos voces para un baile” by Javier Barón. He has collaborated with renowned guitarists like Niño de Pura, Manolo Franco, Paco Javier Jimeno and Carlos Piñana, and performed at the 2009 Rome Biennale closing gala with Antonio Canales, Milagros Mengíbar, Pastora Galván and José de la Tomasa.

He has been part of productions such as “Suspiro Flamenco” by Manuela Carrasco, “Carmen” by Salvador Távora, and “Andalucía, el Flamenco y la Humanidad” by Mario Maya, and performed El Amor Brujo by Falla with the Balkan Orchestra.

In 2009, he premiered his first solo show, “Flamencos”, at the Festival Flamenco de Jerez, touring internationally with the Instituto Cervantes in cities such as Kuwait, Tokyo, Chicago, New York, Nairobi and Kenya. In 2011, he presented “Puntal”, receiving critical acclaim and completing a six-month season at Tokyo’s El Flamenco tablao. In 2019, he premiered “La Protesta” alongside Rocío Márquez, La Yiya and Juan Pinilla at the Belgium Flamenco Festival.

In 2022, he joined the guitarist Manuel Herrera’s project “Herencia Flamenca”, and premiered his third production “De Arte” at the Flamenco Colores Festival in Olomouc (Czech Republic). In 2023, he debuted his latest creation “A Solas” in Vienna.

His versatility has led him to collaborate in cross-cultural projects with Turkish musicians, Bulgarian voices, and classical orchestras worldwide. Since his beginnings at El Arenal tablao at age 17, he has performed in prestigious venues such as Los Gallos, Casa de la Memoria, Patio Sevillano and Casa Patas, and at leading flamenco festivals and clubs both in Spain and abroad.

As a teacher and choreographer, he has taught workshops and courses in Japan, Turkey, New York, the Netherlands and beyond. He currently combines his touring and teaching activity with directing classes at Flamenquería Studios in Seville, continuing to pass on his art and passion for flamenco to new generations
